I woke up feeling uninspired, and a little agitated. I peer out my window to be greeted by a thick fog. It was one of those days you can almost taste are going to be full of setbacks and random annoyances (glass half empty kind of morning). I immediately wanted to climb back into my bed and bury myself in a cloud of sheets.

The phone beeps. It’s my homegirl Riley’s morning message, ‘energy creates our reality‘. Couldn’t have come at a better time. Still feeling bothered, I nestle myself cross legged on the floor and close my eyes. Five minutes pass. Every second, a struggle. Deep slow breaths I think to myself, ‘you got this‘. My morning meditation lasted all of 10 mins in total but I stood feeling slightly transformed.

I go back to the window, full sun.

There’s something about meditation that my entire being wants to resist. I almost always feel clearer after having done it, but getting there is the struggle of a lifetime. I suppose this is a long-winded-story but I feel like it helps prove my point so bare with me.

Sometimes life gives you lemons. In the morning. A spilled coffee, an alarm that doesn’t go off, an angry Boss. This is my little reminder to myself you that it’s the little things, that sometimes have the largest impact. Take a moment for yourself, whatever that looks like. Your cranium spaghetti factory upstairs, deserves attention. And if you deal with mental illness, as I do, that attention must be constant.

Within an hour, the sun was out in full effect, and I was happy as a clam, back to radiating a positive flow of energy. I’m not saying every bad feeling can be solved with meditation, I’m just suggesting from experience, that you give it a try. Even if it feels like a pain in the ass.

If that doesn’t work, put your headphones in a listen to A Seat at the Table by Solange and go for a walk. That entire album is healing for the soul.

OH YEAH. Haha. Fit deets haha. I copped this guy from Aritzia two seasons ago. While the exact same denim version is no longer available, they do still carry it in faux suede, in a plethora of colors. Click here for more.
